Poggy Bali Surf School
Surf Bali with those who grew up on these waves
Led by a 100% Balinese team, based in Uluwatu and operating across well-known surf breaks including Keramas.
The school welcomes all levels and ages (from age 3 and above), from complete beginners to more experienced surfers, with options for private, semi-private and group lessons.
Each session is adapted to the conditions of the day and your level in the water, with a strong focus on safety, ocean awareness and confidence.
For those looking for a more in-depth experience, customised surf trips and packages can also be arranged.
100% local, fairly run
Poggy Bali Surf School is fully Balinese owned and operated, in an industry where many surf schools are foreign owned or not run by local Balinese teams.
The school works with Indonesian suppliers for surf equipment and merchandise and is run by a team of local coaches, drivers and videographers, keeping 100% of the value within the community.
Wages are set above local averages, creating more stable and sustainable opportunities for the people behind each session.
The school is also actively involved in the local surf scene, sponsoring competitions and supporting youth programmes such as the Baliwista Program in Lebih.
----
Led by local knowledge
Every session is led by local coaches who have grown up surfing in Bali, bringing a deep understanding of the breaks, conditions and how to navigate them safely.
From reading waves to positioning in the lineup, guidance comes from real experience. This also allows sessions to move across different surf spots, choosing the right conditions each day.
Beyond the time in the water, the experience reflects a deeper sense of Balinese hospitality, from helping you navigate the island to sharing local meals.
It is this combination of local knowledge and hospitality that allows you to experience Bali through the people who call it home, on the waves they know best.
----
Small groups, real progression
Lessons are kept intentionally small, with a maximum of three students per coach, allowing for more direct feedback and continuous support throughout each session.
Alongside hands-on coaching, sessions can include video analysis and personalised feedback, helping you improve over time.
Whether it is technique, ocean awareness or confidence in the lineup, the focus is on steady progression.
Story Behind Poggy Bali Surf School
Founded by Lempog, who was born and raised in Lebih village on Bali’s east coast. Growing up around one of the island’s more challenging surf breaks, he developed a deep connection to the ocean from an early age, competing in both local and international surf competitions by the time he was ten.
After more than twenty years in the water, he set out to build something of his own: a surf school that goes beyond teaching technique to sharing local knowledge and the experience of surfing in Bali as it is lived.
