Ecotourism Nusa Penida
A different way to experience paradise.
Created by the local conservation community Nuansa Pulau, this Indonesian led social enterprise designs regenerative travel experiences on Nusa Penida, just 30 minutes by boat from Bali.
Here, you do more than just chase the Instagram moments the island is famous for. You join coral planting sessions, support mangrove recovery, learn about marine ecosystems and even farm seaweed alongside local families whose livelihoods depend on healthy oceans.
You get in the water. You work alongside conservationists. And yes, the views are still spectacular.
Since 2017, the team has planted more than 100,000 corals while building a model where tourism actively funds environmental recovery and local livelihoods.
Led by the local community
Ecotourism Nusa Penida is operated 100% by locals as part of the organisation Nuansa Pulau. Every spend stays on the island, supporting local livelihoods and empowering the community to continue its conservation work.
Experiences that restore
Every activity is designed to create measurable impact. Travellers take part in coral planting, mangrove restoration, environmental education and seaweed farming experiences that connect marine conservation with local income.
Moving beyond the pretty photos
Nusa Penida has seen rapid tourism growth in recent years, largely driven by its dramatic landscapes. Instead of quick viewpoints and crowded photo stops where most travellers experience the island, Ecotourism Nusa Penida focuses on learning, restoration and meaningful engagement with the local community, something many visitors rarely get to experience.
Story behind Ecotourism Nusa Penida
Operated entirely by the local village, what started as a coral restoration initiative evolved into a broader vision: using tourism as a tool for regeneration.
Today, every planted coral, every restored mangrove and every interaction feeds back into that original mission, to protect Nusa Penida while creating opportunities for the community that calls it home.
