From sponsoring English and traditional dance classes to creating work for trekking guides, workshop leaders, builders and suppliers, the lodge plays an active role in the local economy. Building materials are sourced locally and monthly contributions support village utilities and development.
Inspired by permaculture principles, the lodge was designed to work with the landscape rather than reshape it. Buildings sit gently within the mountains, preserving green space and wildlife habitat, a philosophy that has turned the property into a birdwatching hotspot, with over 131 recorded species and counting!

Every stay directly benefits the surrounding village and environment, through ongoing support, donations and locally run programmes started by the lodge itself. All staff live within 20 minutes of the property, with many trained from scratch into confident tourism professionals, creating long-term opportunities close to home.
What started as a small mountain home for the family in 1990 slowly grew into the eco lodge it is today. The family still lives on site and remains deeply involved day to day, shaping an experience that feels personal, grounded and genuinely cared for.
We had the most incredible stay at Sarinbuana! As a family who values nature and ethical business practices, we were truly blown away by the attention to detail here. The respect for the land, the quality of food, the local community… not only does supporting a business like this keep Bali nature alive, but it truly helps the ecosystem and community thrive! Spreading awareness to local villages on how to have sustainable practices that not only attract tourists but also keep this beautiful island from becoming a concrete jungle of fancy villas built with poor practices. The food was incredible, they were so welcoming of our 5 year old daughter, natural pool is amazing… cannot say enough good things about this place 🥹
6/5 stars.. every little detail about this establishment is in harmony with nature and the Balinese culture 🙏 Would love to come back some day and bring a family!! And the pool… OMG and the waterfalls And the treks And the food I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a Bali experience outside of the touristy areas and who has a heart for ecotourism
The site was paradisiacal. it’s incredibly beautiful. Everywhere you look, you’re in awe. The food at the restaurant was very good, the staff extremely kind, and the rooms were excellent. Even though it’s far from everything, you can enjoy many activities by booking tours. Highly recommended. If you wish to feel like you’re in the Garden of Eden!
