Think the Maldives is only about luxury resorts and honeymoons? Think again.
Whether you’re travelling solo, with your partner, your family or a group of friends, Secret Paradise Maldives tours are for anyone curious to experience the Maldives beyond the postcard.
Think local food tours, shared meals with Maldivian families, hands-on learning about marine life and plenty of time to relax, eat well and explore places most travellers miss by only visiting resort islands.
From 4 hour walking tours to multi-day experiences and tailor-made itineraries, Secret Paradise Maldives offers a truly authentic way to discover this island paradise.
* Secret Paradise Maldives is the only tour operator in the Maldives that provides authentic local experiences.
Experiences that give back Every experience is designed to support local communities while helping protect the Maldives' fragile natural environment. The team prioritises local accommodation, locally owned businesses, while creating opportunities for guests to learn about marine conservation, island life and the environmental challenges facing the Maldives. By travelling this way, visitors help ensure that more tourism income remains within local communities.
Led by locals Every experience is led by knowledgeable Maldivian guides who know the islands like the back of their hand. Whether you're wandering the streets of Malé, travelling between islands or exploring coral reefs, your guides share local stories, traditions and everyday life, offering an insider's perspective that simply isn't possible from a resort transfer.
Small groups, better stories Most scheduled tours are limited to just 8 guests, allowing for more meaningful conversations, greater flexibility and experiences that feel personal rather than rushed. Travelling in smaller groups also helps minimise the impact on the communities and environments being visited.
Story behind Secret Paradise Maldives
Ruth first came to the Maldives over 20 years ago in search of mantas and whale sharks and never really left.
After more than 30 visits, countless shared meals, afternoon hedhika and deep friendships with local families, she co-founded Secret Paradise Maldives in 2012 to share the Maldives the way she came to know it: through people, not resorts.
My wife and I wanted to experience the local islands of the Maldives rather than staying only at a private resort. I spent a lot of time watching YouTube videos, researching which islands to visit, and figuring out logistics. After searching for tour companies, I feel incredibly lucky that I reached out to Ruth at Secret Paradise Maldives.
From the very beginning, the communication was outstanding. Ruth always replied within a day and went above and beyond by offering thoughtful advice, including advice on extending our trip with a one-night stay at a private resort. Based on her recommendation, we booked the 7-Night North Ari Local Island Hopping Tour, and it exceeded our expectations.
The biggest value of traveling with Secret Paradise is having a full-time local tour guide in a small group (there were only five travelers in ours). Everything was well organized with a perfect balance of activities (snorkeling, island walking tours, kayaking, and more) along with plenty of free time to relax and explore on our own.
From the moment we landed at the airport, everything was seamless. We were greeted by our tour leader, Nafsha, who took us to our hotel in Hulhumalé for our first night. She stayed with us throughout the entire trip and even helped us on the final day by guiding us to the correct booth for our private resort stay.
Nafsha was an exceptional tour leader. She shared deep insight into Maldivian culture, growing up in the Maldives, local flora and fauna, and environmental issues—knowledge you simply wouldn’t get at a private resort. She was also incredibly caring, safety-focused, and always ready to help with anything, whether it was a medical concern or a simple question.
If you want to experience the authentic Maldives—the people, culture, and natural beauty beyond luxury resorts—I highly recommend Secret Paradise Maldives. This trip was truly unforgettable.

We had an incredible two weeks with Secret Paradise Maldives.
While arranging the trip Ruth was extremely helpful in answering all our questions and helping to plan our trip.
Our first week was on the Mantra Ray Conservation cruise, living aboard the (Felicity) boat and visting the Raa and Baa Atolls. Our second week was a week of island hopping in the North Ari Atoll (Visting Mathiveri, Ukulhas and Rasdhoo). All the guides and staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We saw amazing wildlife everyday and learnt so much about the local culture and traditions and about sustainability, research and conservation in the Maldives.

The best way to experience the Maldivian ocean and culture. Excellent service, amazing guides, who made the trip incredibly informative and safe.Thank you Ruth, Shark, Kamey, Shaffaf, Rumey and the amazing boat captain and crew. Although we were not lucky enough to encounter whale sharks, we saw and snorkelled with sharks, turtles, mantas, sting rays and more. But most importantly we understood how precious this environment is and how threatened it is.
Secret Paradise was present from the moment we landed to the time we left, we felt safe and supported. Thank you.
