Pension Te Ra'i Nui

Huahine, French Polynesia
Accommodation

Experience the real French Polynesia

Think French Polynesia is all overwater villas and curated luxury? Think again.

On Huahine, just a short flight from Bora Bora, Te Ra’i Nui offers a more grounded version of Polynesia. One shaped by nature, local life, and a pace that feels far removed from the typical resort experience.

This is for travellers who want to experience the island as it is. Slower days, meaningful stays, and a place that feels connected to its surroundings rather than designed to stand apart from them.

Nature first

You wake up surrounded by greenery, not manicured landscapes, but the island as it is.

The bungalows are set within nature, giving you space to slow down and settle in. Mornings are quiet and unstructured, the kind that invite you to spend more time outside than in.

----

Local island life

You’re on island time here. Days unfold naturally, with time outdoors, slow meals, and unplanned moments that come from simply being present.

Supplies come from local producers, and the people behind your stay, from staff to extra hands, are from Huahine itself. It is not something highlighted, it is simply how things work.

Your stay supports local livelihoods and keeps value within the community, while giving you a closer look at everyday life on the island.

----

Comfort with intention

The bungalows are designed to combine ecological values with a high standard of comfort.

Nothing feels excessive, but nothing feels lacking. Every detail is considered, from the layout of the bungalows to the way water and energy are used throughout the space and the personalised service that shapes your stay.

One of the bungalows is adapted for wheelchair users, making the experience more accessible while maintaining the same level of comfort throughout.

Story Behind Te Ra’i Nui

Te Ra’i Nui means “the immense sky” in Polynesian.

The name comes from the night sky you can see from the bungalows, clear and uninterrupted. It is also the name of one of the founder’s sons, making the place deeply personal from the start.

After years of travelling, Sylvain and Maeva chose to return to Maeva’s home in Huahine to build something of their own. A place that reflects their ecological values, their connection to Polynesian culture, and a style of hospitality that feels closer to everyday life on the island.
