Outreach Borneo offers community-led journeys in rural Sabah that connect travellers with local people, culture and nature, while directly supporting local families and traditions.

Through homestays, outdoor adventures and cultural activities, guests experience Borneo in a meaningful way while directly supporting local families and traditions. Every experience is designed to be responsible, respectful and rooted in real connection.

Led by the community

Every experience is created and delivered together with the communities themselves. Local guides, homestay hosts, cooks and artisans lead the way, ensuring income stays within the village and traditions are respected. Outreach Borneo focuses on building skills, confidence and leadership so community members can manage and shape experiences on their own terms.

Culture you take part in

This isn’t about watching from the sidelines. Guests are invited into daily local life, learning bamboo cooking, weaving, farming practices and what it means to live closely with the land. What may feel like a simple meal, walk or craft session is often rooted in generations of knowledge.

Small groups, lighter footprints

Travel here is intentionally low-impact. Experiences are kept small, paced slowly and designed with the environment in mind. Services and supplies are sourced locally and a portion of income is reinvested into community and youth projects that support long-term social and economic development.

Story behind Outreach Borneo
Outreach Borneo grew out of a shared passion for adventure, culture, and meaningful connection with Borneo’s landscapes and people.

Led by locals Mejin and June, alongside adventurer Stuart, the team brings a deep love of the outdoors and strong local knowledge to every experience, creating journeys that go beyond typical tours and forge genuine connections between travellers, culture and land.

Many of the experiences are led by community members welcoming international travellers for the first time.

By focusing on partnership rather than performance, Outreach Borneo helps communities share their culture with dignity, while creating new opportunities for the next generation to stay connected to their heritage.
