NOMADIS Dance

Tours & Experiences Women-owned Retreat
Madeira, Portugal

Travel the world through dance

NOMADIS brings dance and travel together through week-long retreats that move from one destination to the next, giving dance lovers the chance to train, create and experience a new place through movement.

Each retreat combines several hours of dance each day with time to explore the destination, experience its culture and get a rare look behind the scenes of a professional contemporary dance company.

The first NOMADIS retreat takes place in Madeira, Portugal, with future editions planned in new destinations around the world.

Planet & People

Moving with purpose
As NOMADIS travels to new destinations, each retreat is developed with the place hosting it rather than simply using it as a backdrop.

The team collaborates with local accommodation providers, venues, dance instructors, guides and other small businesses, while incorporating local food, folklore and cultural experiences into the week. Participants are encouraged to explore and spend locally, helping each residency support the businesses, artists and communities around it.

Dance without barriers
You don't need to be a professional dancer to join NOMADIS. Different levels are welcome, with a supportive environment where participants can train, experiment and connect through dance.

Days can include contemporary dance and ballet, body conditioning, improvisation, choreography and guest artist masterclasses, alongside creative workshops where participants can explore their own movement and ideas.

For those who don't need accommodation or can't commit to the full retreat, NOMADIS also offers one-day and five-day classes-only passes alongside its full accommodation packages.

Go behind the curtain

Each retreat runs alongside a NOMADIS Dance Company residency, giving participants access to a side of the professional dance world that audiences don't normally get to see.

You'll have opportunities to observe rehearsals, meet company artists, join artist talks and learn from guest dancers before seeing the final work performed on stage.

Story behind NOMADIS Dance

NOMADIS was founded by choreographer Sara from a desire to combine two things she loves: dance and travel.

With more than a decade of contemporary dance training and a Master's degree in Choreography, Sara wanted to create a way for people to travel through dance while opening up parts of the professional dance world that aren't normally accessible to amateur and aspiring dancers.

The name itself is a play on "nomadic", reflecting the idea that NOMADIS doesn't belong to one permanent location. Instead, the company and its retreats move between destinations, collaborating with local artists and communities along the way.
