Slow down in the mountains of Montenegro
Surrounded by forests and meadows in central Montenegro, GEA Retreat is a small nature retreat with 2 guest apartments, offering a peaceful place to step away from everyday routines.
Stay for a dedicated wellbeing retreat or settle in for longer with GEA's coliving programme. Days can include yoga and meditation, forest walks, mindful gardening, aromatherapy, Reiki and plant-based meals, or simply finding a quiet spot to enjoy the mountain views.
At night, the property's distance from city lights creates ideal conditions for guided stargazing beneath Montenegro's dark skies.
Open year-round, GEA welcomes solo travellers, couples and remote workers looking for rest, time in nature, wellbeing or personal growth.
GEA isn't only for organised retreats. Its year-round coliving programme gives solo travellers, couples and digital nomads the opportunity to make the mountains home for a little longer.
The two stone-built apartments sit close to the Community House, a shared space for working, cooking, reading and joining workshops. Between work, guests can hike, cycle, spend time in the garden or add wellbeing sessions to their stay, creating their own balance between productivity, rest and time outdoors.
Wellbeing inspired by nature
Nature plays a central role in how guests spend their time at GEA. Rather than following one fixed programme, activities draw from different approaches to wellbeing, including naturopathy, yoga, meditation, Reiki, aromatherapy, mindful eating and gardening.
Guests can walk the Heart and Barefoot Trails, learn to grow food using nature-friendly gardening techniques, practise yoga outdoors or join guided cloudgazing and stargazing sessions. Many activities are available throughout the year, with outdoor experiences changing according to the weather and seasons.
Living a little lighter Sustainable living isn't only something GEA talks about; guests encounter it as part of everyday life at the retreat.
Food waste is composted or used to feed animals, rainwater is collected, fruit and vegetables are grown on the property and waste is separated for recycling. GEA has also created a small recycling hub that can be used by the surrounding community. Guests can get involved through bio-gardening and learn about practical ways of living with less impact on the environment.
Story Behind GEA Retreat
GEA Retreat was co-founded by Andjela with the idea of creating a place where wellbeing, nature and a more sustainable way of living could exist side by side.
A certified naturopathic practitioner, Andjela is also the retreat's host and activities coordinator. Her work ranges from helping guests explore holistic wellbeing to developing the property's bio garden and introducing practical approaches to nature healing and sustainable living.
GEA creates a space in the Montenegrin mountains where travellers can slow down, spend time in nature and explore practices they can take home with them.
We spent three nights here as a couple, and left feeling rested, well fed and genuinely inspired.
From the moment we arrived, it was obvious that Andjela and Matija aren’t just running a retreat – they’re living a vision. Everything reflects their passion for sustainable living, nature and creating a place where people can slow down and reconnect.
The setting is beautiful. Every morning we woke up to mountain views, enjoyed yoga with Tamara, and spent our days hiking, swimming in the nearby lake, exploring Nikšić, or simply relaxing. One of my favourite experiences was the guided barefoot walk through different natural surfaces, followed by meditation in the forest. We even did stargazing from the garden one evening, which was magical.
The food deserves a special mention. Breakfast and dinner were generous, delicious and prepared with real care. Andjela talked us through where the ingredients came from, many of them locally grown or sourced, including vegetables and fresh eggs from the property. You could feel the love she puts into every meal. In fact, the portions were so generous that we rarely felt hungry between meals. It didn’t stop Andjela giving us bowls of fruits and nuts for our room or for a picnic
I also booked a couple of personal training sessions with Stefan, which were excellent and well worth the additional cost.
The retreat is home to some wonderfully friendly dogs (despite looking like bears!), chickens and abundant wildlife, all adding to the feeling that you’re immersed in nature rather than simply staying in accommodation.
Their commitment to sustainability is impressive. Rainwater is harvested, they care deeply about the surrounding eight hectares of land, and every conversation with Andjela reinforces how much thought has gone into creating an environmentally responsible retreat without compromising comfort. The Wi-Fi was also reliable, which was helpful when we needed it.
There are currently only two guest rooms, making the experience very personal and peaceful. We met a lovely volunteer from Mexico who was staying upstairs, and it was easy to see why people are drawn to this place. I hope they’re able to expand over time because they have some exciting ideas for the future while staying true to what makes the retreat special.
If you’re looking for authenticity, warm hospitality, fresh food, beautiful nature, meaningful conversations and a chance to properly switch off, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
Thank you, Andjela and Matija. Your passion and authenticity shine through in everything you do, and I genuinely wish you every success with this wonderful project.

This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. Nestled into the side of a mountain, overlooking a valley full of trees. Pictures don’t do it justice. If you’re looking for a peaceful place to recharge, you can’t do any better.
I stayed here for a 6 weeks and it was wonderful. Andjela is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met, and will do everything she can to make your stay as great as possible.
The room is huge, with a large comfortable bed and a good sized balcony. It gets lots of sun and is a comfortable place to meditate and reflect.
At my request, she arranged for a personal trainer three times a week. FitCamp also offers things like nutrition classes, mindfulness workshops, yoga classes, wine tastings, hiking, etc.
I’ll definitely be back many more times! It doesn’t get better than this.

It was a incredible experience. I contacted Andjela in advance via email and already there I felt what a wonderful person she is. She answered always very fast and I was free to specify the time and duration of my stay - she was very flexible and easy going. What I really appreciated was that she answered any questions regarding my stay in Montenegro and also recommended me a reasonably priced and very reliable car rental company (friends of hers). That was great!
So I arrived there with my own rental car and Andjela and Matija and all their pets (dogs, cat, chickens) welcomed me very warmly. My room was beautiful, very generous and clean with a balcony with wonderful view in to the green. You really could mean you are in South America! :-) The surrounding area is very quiet and I enjoyed relaxing nights with deep sleep and calm mornings with homegrown tea.
The program that Andjela put together for me was very varied:
- Stargazing with audioguide from my wonderful balcony
- every day yoga with the amazing yoga teacher Tamara (indoors or outdoors depending on the weather, different types of yoga with meditation and breathing exercises - this yoga classes were something of the best during my stay)
- cleaning up the surrounding area during a walk with the dogs
- walking the heart trail around the house
- wine and tea tasting (with some local products like olives, cheese, cookies etc.)
- visiting concerts at lake fest in Niksic (we had so much fun!!)
- nutrition and mindful workshop (listen to a presentation, we did our own homemade granola, design your own daily self care map etc.)
- canyoning trip in Nevidio Canyon (starts with a amazing brunch buffet at Eco Selo Nevidio, the trip itself was one of my best experience, after I got there a very nice lunch)
They have a wide selection of breakfast and every morning it was just delicious and also very flexible in terms of time. So greatful for that. For dinner I could use their kitchen, what was really nice too.
The best thing was that I had besides the program a lot of time for my self (reading, jogging, discover Niksic and Lake Krupac).
I also really enjoyed spending time together with Andjela and Matija and talk with them or walk. They are so open minded and have a beautiful interaction with nature, animals, food and people.
I'm so thankful for the time I stayed in FitCamp and for meeting Andjela, Matija and all their friends. I can highly recommend a stay there. I came very close to myself there. I felt like home and have now my family there in Montenegro! Thank you for everything - lots of love and hugs from Switzerland!! Can't wait to see you again.
