Rather than concentrating tourism around Montenegro’s busy coastline, Nikena Eco Adventures focuses many of its experiences in the north of the country, helping direct tourism income into smaller rural communities.
Guides are always local to the regions they lead in, bringing a deeper understanding of the places travellers are exploring.
Meals usually take place on farms and in local homes where guests can experience regional recipes, homemade products and local hospitality in a more personal way.

Accommodation is prioritised through small family run stays and rural households. Guests may find themselves sleeping in 200 year old stone houses, staying in traditional wooden cottages over a century old or sharing homemade meals prepared with ingredients grown nearby. These stays offer a to experience Montenegro through its rural communities, traditions and food culture.
Led by husband and wife Nikola and Ena since 2015, Nikena Eco Adventures was created from a desire to show a different side of Montenegro.
As tourism along the coast continued to dominate the industry, the team saw an opportunity to redirect tourism towards the north of the country and into smaller communities often left out of tourism’s economic benefits.
Together with local guides, hosts and rural families, Nikena began creating tailor made experiences that support local communities while helping travellers experience a more authentic side of Montenegro.
We did a family road trip across Montenegro for two weeks and had a fantastic experience. Thanks to Nikola, we connected with passionate locals who welcomed us into their homes, shared meals with us, and gave us genuine insights into everyday life in Montenegro — far beyond the usual tourist spots. Nikola was always responsive and incredibly helpful, especially when we ran into trouble with a tire on our car. I highly recommend his services to anyone wanting an authentic and smooth Montenegrin adventure.
Highly recommend!! We are a group of 4 couples, friends for 30 years, that chose this trip as our first large group trip. It was truly a self-guided adventure! We are all well-traveled, but the local accommodations and real people that we met along the way made this trip stand out. We learned so much about the Balkans history and culture. The food was Amazing!! Honest to goodness farm to table from the farm you’re sleeping at. And the nicest people. Really interesting and very kind. Nikola made the planning so easy. Every detail was accounted for and laid out for us. He was always available, or his Albanian counterpart. Just a text away to answer any question or concern we had. The hiking was gorgeous!! Beautiful meadows of wildflowers. High peaks. Lakes to swim in. Often with a guide who would tell us interesting facts about the area, or who would let us walk in silence and take it all in. All 8 of us wholeheartedly enjoyed and would recommend this travel company. Well done Nikola!
We’ve had the most amazing trip! Everyone went above and beyond to make our trip so memorable. The guides and hosts were all fantastic. We’ve stayed in the most beautiful places and met the kindest people. We were so well supported and looked after by Nikola and the whole team. Nothing was too much trouble!
