Diamond Waters Treehouse Retreat

Accommodation
Dunbogan, Australia

A treehouse retreat in the Australian rainforest

Surrounded by 5 National Parks and Reserves and set on a 5-hectare property between the river and the sea, Diamond Waters Treehouse Retreat features just 2 spacious treehouses connected by elevated rainforest walkways, offering guests privacy while immersing them in one of Australia's richest natural environments.

Wake to birdsong, enjoy a morning coffee with the owners, wander through the guest vegetable gardens, or spend your day exploring pristine beaches, rainforest walking trails and the nearby coastal village.

Although it feels wonderfully secluded, cafés, restaurants and the river are all within walking distance, making it easy to experience both nature and the local community.

Each fully self-contained treehouse has been thoughtfully designed for comfort and accessibility, with spacious interiors, full kitchen and laundry facilities, private BBQs, and step-free access, making it suitable for a wide range of travellers.

People & Planet

Thoughtfully designed for comfort
With only 2 treehouses across five hectares, privacy comes naturally at Diamond Waters. The spacious 1 bedroom treehouses feature elevated rainforest walkways, accessible design, fully equipped kitchens, BBQ facilities and private outdoor spaces that encourage guests to slow down and enjoy their surroundings. Shared spaces, including the morning coffee bar, vegetable and herb gardens, riverside walks, bird hide and fire pit, create opportunities to connect with both nature and fellow travellers. The retreat has been recognised with the 2023 New South Wales Unique Accommodation Award and selected by Wanderlust UK as one of Australia's standout eco-accommodation experiences.

Tourism that gives back to nature
For more than 15 years, Peter and Kerry, the owners have used tourism as a way to restore the land around them. Income from every stay helps fund ongoing rainforest and wetland regeneration across the property, creating healthier habitats for native wildlife and improving biodiversity year after year. Today, more than 150 bird species visit the property alongside an abundance of Australian wildlife, giving guests the opportunity to experience nature while directly supporting its protection.

Explore the best of the Mid North Coast
Despite its peaceful setting, Diamond Waters Treehouse Retreat is only a short walk from the beaches of Dunbogan, the Camden Haven River and the local village. Guests can explore nearby National Parks, enjoy the famous Diamond Head Coastal Walk during whale migration season, discover quiet beaches, go fishing, paddle along the river or sample fresh local seafood at nearby cafés and restaurants. The owners are always happy to share their favourite local recommendations to help guests experience the region beyond the usual tourist stops.

Story Behind Diamond Waters Treehouse Retreat

Diamond Waters Treehouse Retreat was created by Peter and Kerry after they left careers in healthcare and property management to raise their young family on Australia's Mid North Coast. When they purchased the neglected 5-hectare property, they saw an opportunity to restore the landscape while creating a tourism business that could help fund its regeneration.

More than two decades later, they continue to welcome guests personally each morning over coffee, sharing stories, local knowledge and the ongoing journey of restoring the forests and wetlands that surround the retreat.
