Tromsø Accessible Tours
The magic of the Arctic is accessible to everyone.
Tromsø Accessible Tours is a social enterprise that designs year round adventure itineraries, making Northern Norway possible for everyone, including travellers with disabilities, specific mobility needs, cognitive differences or language barriers.
From September to April, it is about chasing the Northern Lights. In summer, it is multi day journeys under the Midnight Sun.
This is not a separate category of tourism. It is tourism designed properly from the beginning.
Adventure for everyone
Travellers with and without disabilities join the same experiences. You can hop onto a scheduled tour or request something tailored. The starting point is not limitation. It is possibility.
When asked if something is accessible, their objective is to say yes. If it is not yet accessible, they work to remove the barriers.
Breaking barriers in the Arctic
Accessibility here goes beyond ramps and vehicles. It includes cognitive needs, language support and adapting experiences so they are genuinely inclusive.
Whether it is viewing the Northern Lights, exploring fjords or discovering Arctic landscapes, the team works around barriers rather than accepting them.
Access for the local community
Deeply embedded in the local community, the team uses tourism as a way to improve accessibility in the town itself for both residents and visitors.
Tromsø Accessible Tours is currently the only dedicated accessible tourism company in Tromsø, helping shift what adventure travel in Northern Norway can look like.
Story behind Tromsø Accessible Tours
The idea began with Martin, the founder who believes magical places should not come with restrictions.
Martin has worked in tourism in Tromsø for years and what stuck with him most was how many travellers with specific needs were told the Arctic was “not for them”.
After guiding a multi day tour for people with reduced mobility in 2019 and witnessing first hand how difficult it was for them to access the landscapes around Tromsø, Martin asked a simple question: what if access was not the exception, but the starting point?
Tromsø Accessible Tours grew from that idea, using tourism to break down barriers and open up the Northern Lights, the Midnight Sun and Arctic landscapes to everyone.
