De Berin Bed & Breakfast
Best of Dutch countryside living
Tucked into the rolling farmland of Westhoek in Friesland, De Berin is a 1 bedroom bed and breakfast where simple pleasures and wide-open skies shape your stay.
Think morning bike rides past grazing sheep, bird migration overhead and farmland that stretches further than your to-do list.
Pleasures are in the details
Mornings begin with breakfast prepared by the owner, using eggs from the onsite chickens and herbs picked straight from the garden. In season, you can even pluck grapes from the vine yourself.
The garden is planted to bloom with the seasons and when the air turns cooler, there’s firewood ready by the pit.
Bikes, dikes, birds & sheep
Step outside and you’re in open farmland beside the dikes, the iconic raised earth walls that protect the Netherlands from the sea. Walking or cycling along them isn’t just scenic, it’s stepping into one of the country’s most defining landscapes, with sheep grazing freely and bird migration unfolding overhead in season.
Borrow a bike and follow quiet country lanes through endless fields or wander down to the sea in just 15 minutes on foot.
Space to slow down
Rooms are made for proper rest after long days outdoors. Evenings mean lighting your own garden fire, stargazing over open fields and feeling the kind of quiet that’s hard to find elsewhere.
Story behind De Berin Bed and Breakfast
De Berin is the home of Marga, a local who has been welcomed into homes around the world and wanted to return that same warmth in her own corner of the Netherlands.
The space reflects her love for open farmland, seasonal blooms and the quiet joy of sharing it all with others. Well known in the neighbourhood, Marga introduces you to what it means to be part of a local community. If you’re lucky, you might even get to taste something from a neighbour’s garden or hear a local story over breakfast.
De Berin captures the best of Dutch culture and countryside living: keeping things simple, not overdesigned, not overdone. Just space, good food, bikes by the door and a host who genuinely enjoys opening her home.
