Organic Garden

Handmade with local craftsmanship
Casa Chuparrosas was built with a strong appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, bringing together natural building materials, handcrafted furnishings and artwork selected for the space.

The owners work with regional artisans, craftspeople and food producers, incorporating their work into the cabin and sourcing ingredients from nearby farms.

This helps support small businesses in and around San Mateo Río Hondo while giving guests a chance to appreciate the skills and products of the region.

The same hands-on approach extends to the garden, where plants are grown from seed, including native and unusual varieties suited to the mountain environment.

Explore Oaxaca's mountain countryside
The Sierra Sur offers a different side of Oaxaca, with cool mountain temperatures, pine-covered hills, misty mornings and plenty of opportunities to spend time outdoors.

Hiking trails lead through the surrounding forests, with nearby waterfalls, horseback riding and ATV adventures available for those wanting to explore further.

From the garden to your plate
Food is a big part of the experience at Casa Chuparrosas, where an organic garden supplies fresh ingredients for the property's private dining experiences.

Guests can reserve an intimate, single-table dining experience featuring meals prepared from scratch using homegrown produce and ingredients sourced from nearby farms. The menu draws on what's available from the garden, bringing seasonal flavours directly to your plate.

For those who enjoy cooking, resident chef Marian also hosts an artisanal pasta-making class. Learn to knead, roll and shape fresh pasta by hand before sitting down to enjoy your creations with garden-grown tea, wine and dessert.

Story behind Casa Chuparrosas

Casa Chuparrosas was created by Marian and Opy, who wanted to live closer to nature and build a home with their own hands. What started as a cabin and a small garden gradually became a place where they could welcome travellers and share their love of food, art and mountain life.

The garden has remained central to the property from the beginning. Plants are carefully grown from seed, with native and unusual varieties cultivated alongside ingredients used in the kitchen. There's even a flock of chickens affectionately called Las Juanas, who eat garden leftovers and help return nutrients to the soil.
