Story behind Bahia Mar

In the final years of Mozambique’s civil war, founder Paulo, a Mozambican local, first arrived on this stretch of coastline with plans to start a sustainable cashew nut farm.

Years later, after helping develop Vilankulo’s first conference centre and rebuilding following Cyclone Favio in 2007, Paulo returned to the project with a deeper intention of creating a place that would allow people to experience this part of Mozambique more thoughtfully.

In 2014, marine biologist Susana Vidal joined the project as General Manager, bringing a strong focus on nature, conservation and responsible tourism.

Together, they built Bahia Mar into more than just a beachfront hotel, creating a place that remains deeply connected to the coastline, community and ecosystems around it.

Our family had a fantastic week here. Stayed in the spacious, beautiful garden suites. The rooms are modern, spotless and beautifully done. The staff and the food was fantastic. The setting is breathtaking, the atmosphere peaceful, and every detail is beautifully done. The food was outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Service was just as impressive: warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. My family and I felt completely relaxed and well taken care of the entire time. My wife and I came here on our honeymoon. We had an AMAZING stay. View from the Sea View room was unreal. We spent a lot of time lounging at the pool and the beach. I couldn't believe how good the food was (seafood platter was amazing!). Really nice variety too. We ended up doing an aerial yoga class and a mud treatment/massage at the Spa too. On our last day we did the Bazaruto Island excursion on their boat and it was the perfect way to wrap up the stay. If you're looking for a more reasonably priced alternative to some of the ridiculously high end spots nearby, you should definitely stay here!
