Understanding the Basque Country one bite at a time
The Basque Country is famous for its food but to truly understand the traditions behind its cuisine, you need to look beyond the menus and restaurant rankings.
Through small group experiences in San Sebastián and Bilbao, TOPA takes guests beyond simple food tastings, introducing travellers to the region through the people, traditions and businesses behind every bite.
Led by a women-led team, these experiences are designed for curious travellers who want to learn about local culture, meet the people shaping it and gain a deeper appreciation for one of Europe's most distinctive culinary regions.
TOPA keeps its groups intentionally small, allowing experiences to feel more like spending time with a knowledgeable local than following a tour guide with a flag.
This encourages conversation between guests, guides and business owners, creating opportunities to hear personal stories, interact with locals and ask questions that often go unanswered on larger tours. For many travellers, these conversations become just as memorable as the food itself.
Food as a window into the Basque Country
Guests visit independent bars, bakeries, speciality food shops and producers while learning about the traditions, history and local culture that have shaped Basque cuisine. Whether exploring the pintxos bars of San Sebastián or discovering local flavours in Bilbao, each stop offers an opportunity to understand not only what people eat but why it matters.
Supporting the people behind the destination
TOPA works exclusively with independent local businesses that are deeply connected to the Basque community. Every tour also contributes to community projects in Bilbao and San Sebastián. It's an approach that helps ensure tourism benefits both local businesses and the wider community.
Story behind Topa Food Tours
TOPA was founded by Cristina and Maider, two women who arrived at the same idea from different directions.
One was drawn to the Basque Country through a passion for gastronomy. The other returned home after years living abroad and saw her region with fresh eyes. Together, they shared a belief that food is one of the most honest ways to understand a place and created TOPA as a way to welcome people into the Basque Country through hospitality, food and human connection.
An unforgettable pintxos experience in San Sebastián!
We had an absolutely fantastic time on the walking pintxos tour with Eat One Feed One in San Sebastián. From start to finish, the experience was perfectly paced, incredibly delicious, and deeply engaging.
Our guides Cristina, Lily, and Maider were outstanding — knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely passionate about Basque food, culture, and community. They took us to exceptional pintxos bars we never would have found on our own, explained the traditions behind each stop, and made the whole evening feel relaxed and fun rather than rushed or touristy.
Every bite was memorable, the wine and cider pairings were spot on, and the stories behind the food added so much depth to the experience. Knowing that Eat One Feed One gives back and supports the local community made it even more meaningful.
If you’re visiting San Sebastián, this tour is an absolute must. Come hungry, curious, and ready for one of the best food experiences you’ll have anywhere. Highly, highly recommend!

We did a private food tour with as a family (two kids and my husband). From the very beginning, Cristina made us feel so welcome. Nothing felt rushed — she really adapted everything to us, which made such a difference travelling with children.
The pace was perfect: relaxed, flexible, and very thoughtful. She found stops that worked for all of us, and kept the kids engaged while still giving us adults a real taste of Basque food and culture.
It like being shown around the city by a friend
We’re so glad we booked it privately. Highly recommend for families wanting a more comfortable m way to explore San Sebastian
