Tours & Experiences

Travel built on friendship, culture and real connection

Rafiki Tours & Safaris is a 100% locally owned Namibian tour operator curating journeys across Namibia and Southern Africa, including Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

“Rafiki” means friend and that idea sits at the heart of how every journey is designed. From single-country explorations to multi-country routes, including a special festival-led journeys spanning 4 countries in 14 days, entirely built around cultural celebrations.

Designed around local culture

Rafiki realised early on that there was a gap in cultural tourism in Africa, that Africa’s stories were too often told through wildlife alone. Their journeys are therefore built to include local life, traditions and cultural festivals, allowing travellers to experience Africa beyond the lens of game drives.

Community at the centre
Rafiki works directly with local communities to ensure tourism benefits the people and places travellers visit. Communities are paid directly by travellers, creating transparency and ensuring value flows where it’s meant to. Rafiki also actively reinvests into the communities they work with, supporting school projects, planting trees in every community visited and building long-term livelihood initiatives such as fish farms.

Respect for land, wildlife, and traditions
Experiences are built with respect for both the environment and cultural heritage. Wildlife encounters are approached with patience, allowing animals to be observed on their own terms. Cultural experiences are shaped by everyday life and seasonal traditions, from village life to festivals and celebrations.

Story behind Rafiki Tours and Safaris
Rafiki Tours & Safaris was founded by Joseph, a Namibian local who grew up deeply connected to the land and its people. Through his work in tourism, he saw that while Africa was widely promoted for its wildlife, its cultural stories often went untold or were treated as secondary.

Rafiki was created to change that, to link travellers directly with communities, tell Africa’s stories from within and ensure tourism creates real, lasting value for locals.
