Marcel de Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, Argentina
Accommodation

Art, history and conscious living

Marcel is not just a place to stay but a space that reflects a different way of living in the capital of Argentina.

Set within a fully restored 19th century building, originally designed by A. Christopherson, one of Argentina’s most recognised architects, the hotel is now part of Buenos Aires’ cultural heritage. The pet-friendly space brings together history, art, design and sustainability. With just 9 guest rooms, each is uniquely designed and filled with artworks from Argentine artists.

A space shaped by local artists

Every part of Marcel reflects its connection to the local creative scene. From artwork by Argentine artists to design choices that draw from the city’s character. Original architectural features are preserved, while newer elements are introduced in a way that complements what was already there.

The result is a space that feels closely tied to Buenos Aires’ cultural identity.

Sustainability in mind

In a city where sustainable infrastructure can be limited, the owner has made a consistent effort to run the space more responsibly, from working with a 100% local team and suppliers to sourcing materials and products more consciously.

The building was restored with ecological materials wherever possible, with recycled wood, upcycled furnishings and preserved original features like hardwood floors in the salon. Across the space, details reflect this approach, from biodegradable cotton linens and towels to water saving systems and waste management practices.

For locals and travellers alike

Marcel is not closed off from the city, it is part of it. The in house restaurant, Le Petit Marcel, is open to both guests and locals, serving organic, vegan and gluten free food, while the café offers organic coffee, juices and vegan and gluten free breakfast using only local produce.

These shared spaces bring people together naturally, offering travellers a way to spend time in a place that is part of everyday local life.

Story Behind Marcel

Founded by Karin, who ran a small B&B in Brussels in the late 1990s, Marcel began when she chose to build a new life in Buenos Aires and make the city her home.

She saw this as an opportunity to fully integrate into the city, working with local artists, suppliers and collaborators to shape a space that reflects the culture and everyday life around her.

From restoring a historic building to building relationships within the community, Marcel is the result of that transition, a space shaped by both where she comes from and where she has chosen to be.
