Planet & People

More than just a bee tour

Buzzstop is located within Country Lane, a growing community of independent local businesses just minutes from Queenstown Airport. Alongside the bee experiences, visitors can browse artisan shops, coffee roasters, pottery studios and other locally owned businesses, making it easy to spend several hours in the area.

Set on the edge of an old working farm with panoramic views of The Remarkables, it's the kind of place where visitors can spend an afternoon supporting local businesses while enjoying one of Queenstown's most scenic settings.

Learn by doing
During the beekeeping season, guests can suit up alongside an experienced beekeeper, open an active hive, hold frames covered in hundreds of working bees and extract their own jar of fresh honey to take home. Throughout the year, indoor experiences such as honey spinning, honey tastings, craft workshops and the story of New Zealand's mānuka honey continue to introduce visitors to the world of bees. The goal isn't simply to show guests a beehive, but to leave them with a better understanding of the important role bees play in nature and our food systems.

Supporting local beekeepers

Buzzstop works closely with local beekeepers and is home to New Zealand's largest range of native and mānuka honey. The café sources local fruit, vegetables and juices wherever possible, while the bar showcases local craft beers, spirits and mead. Beyond supporting local producers, Buzzstop also provides free meeting space for community groups and donates tour vouchers to local schools and preschools to help with fundraising initiatives.

Story behind Buzzstop Café & Honey Center

Buzzstop was created from a passion for sharing the story of New Zealand's bees, honey and beekeeping with visitors from around the world.

With more than 120+ years of family beekeeping knowledge behind the business, now run by Nick, the team believes the best way to appreciate bees is through understanding them. Rather than focusing on selling honey, they encourage visitors to ask questions, learn how bees support our ecosystems and discover the people behind New Zealand's beekeeping industry.
